A draw latch, also known as a draw catch or toggle latch, is a fastening mechanism commonly employed to secure doors, hatches, cabinets, and other closures. It consists of two main components: a hook or loop attached to one surface and a catch or clasp mounted on the opposite surface. This latch is designed to be drawn (pulled) to close, bringing the two surfaces together. The mechanism often involves a spring-loaded lever or toggle that can be moved to engage or disengage the latch. When closed, the latch is securely held by the catch, preventing unintentional opening.
To complement the draw latch, a draw latch keeper is utilized. The keeper serves as a counterpart by providing a designated point for the latch to engage or "catch" when the closure is secured. Typically installed on the opposite surface from the draw latch, the keeper features a receptacle or slot that matches the shape of the latch's hook or loop. This ensures a secure connection, preventing accidental opening and contributing to the overall reliability of the fastening system.
Draw latches and keepers are widely employed across various industries, including automotive, industrial, aerospace, and consumer goods. They come in different sizes and designs to accommodate various load capacities and application requirements, offering an efficient and quick method for securing doors, panels, and other closures.
