Cable Grommets

 (14 product groups)

What is a cable grommet and what is it used for?

A cable grommet is a small, cable management component used to protect and insulate electrical wiring and cables where they pass through a metal panel or a wall. It is designed to provide a tight fit in order to prevent any damage to the wiring and cables. The grommet also works to reduce the chance of electrical shock. Cable grommets provide a neat and organised appearance to any installation whilst protecting cables, wires and hoses from potential damage and threats.

Typically, a cable grommet is round in shape and is made up of two pieces—the inner and outer pieces. The inner piece is fitted into the hole in the metal panel or wall and the outer piece fits over the inner piece, creating a seal. This seal helps keep out dust, dirt and moisture from environmental impacts or simply to provide a secure and firm grip on the wire or cable.

Types of grommets

Most cable grommets are defined by the materials from which they are made from.

  • Rubber Grommets: Usually made from thermoplastic rubber and EPDM are typically used to protect wires and hoses from abrasion and damage.

  • Plastic Grommets: These are typically made from nylon and PVC.

  • Metal Grommets: Made from brass, steel or aluminium.

Cable Grommet Applications & Uses

They are commonly used in home and office furniture, computer desks, and audio/visual equipment. They can also be found in applications such as automotive, marine, and industrial applications.

Grommet Accessories

Our range also features a wide selection of accessories such as grommet sleeves – designed to provide extra support and protection to cables passing through panels, and our grommet strip can be cut to your desired length and placed around the circumference of panel holes and edges to assist your application. All grommets and accessories we stock, are made from the highest quality materials.

Cable grommets come in a number of shapes, sizes, colours and materials, so we have put together a few handy guides to help you choose which grommet is best for your project. Check out our guide such as:
