Washers are thin metal, or plastic discs used with threaded fasteners, usually bolts and nuts. They can be used to distribute the load of the fastener, prevent damage to the object being fastened and to reduce wear and tear.
Washers come in a variety of sizes, materials and styles. They can be smooth, beveled, split, serrated, and toothed. Essentra Components offers a large selection of standard and specialty washers. Nylon washers may be used to reduce vibrations, provide a non-corrosive barrier between two materials, or act as a thermal/electrical insulator. Lock washers are used to help prevent the fastener from loosening. Spring washers can be stacked to increase tension.
